Understanding the Importance of Audience-Centric Content

The very first thing to understand about getting to your first 1000 subscribers on YouTube and this is also true to get to your first 100 subscribers or even your first 10,000 subscribers, and it's kind of a universal law that applies across all of your different marketing and that is that it's all about the audience, period. Like 100% completely about the audience. Like I said, this is a universal marketing truth and it applies whether we're talking about YouTube growth or Instagram, or LinkedIn or Facebook or advertising or organic or whatever we're talking about, it's always about the customer being empathetic and being understanding about where they're coming from the position that they're in, and what they're trying to achieve, essentially giving them what they want. As an example of just how important this one tip is, well, a lot of my friends and a lot of my colleagues have massive, massive audiences on other channels including Facebook and Instagram and Twitter and all over the place and when I've watched them in the past try to come over to YouTube and ignore this one simple truth about making their content all about the audience, well, they've struggled and ultimately given up on the channel way too soon. And simply because the content they're creating on YouTube well, it was really more about them. It was lifestyle, it was more of a vlog, it was more showing how they lived and things they were into, rather than about the audience and what they actually wanted to see. Unsurprisingly, you're making up videos that nobody's watching, and nobody wants to see and you start to lose hope really quick, which means they abandon the platform far too soon, when all they should have done is really focused on giving valuable content to the audience, and really understanding what the audience wanted to see, and allowing that to guide their content strategy.

Niche Down Strategically for YouTube Success

My next tip on how to get your first 1000 subscribers fast is to be specific ish. You've probably heard a million times that the riches are in the niches and that you need to niche down and you need to find your POP or pocket of people, those people that you can serve and that you resonate with and that you can really kind of dial in and really serve them exclusively at sort of the expense of everybody else. So for example, let's say you've got a YouTube channel focused on fitness. Well, you could niche down and say, Well, maybe it's not just fitness, but it's weight loss for women. And then maybe you could niche down again and say, well, it's weight loss for women who've just had a baby. And then maybe you could niche down again and say its weight loss for women who just had a baby and are also online entrepreneurs and who also live in the Pacific Northwest. The more niche down that you go well the more specific and relevant your content can be. But you can go too far, like I just did in that past example. After all, that market is probably way too small, especially when it comes to YouTube and growing your audience and growing your first 1,000 subscribers there. Now, this is where YouTube kind of differs from other channels and from other marketing strategies. In fact, if you're looking at other marketing strategies and marketing as a whole, you really do wanna niche down as much as you possibly can to really find that core audience that you wanna serve in the best way possible.

The Strategy of Setting Mini Milestones

My next tip for getting towards those first 1,000 subscribers fast is all about setting mini milestones. Now appreciate I don't know exactly what subscriber level you're at right now. So if you already have a channel, make sure to let me know in the comments below with how many subscribers you currently have. If you don't have a channel yet, maybe leave me a comment in the comments below and let me know when you're planning on starting. Regardless, getting started and getting that initial traction, well, that's the hardest part. So getting your first 100, that's quite a struggle. But getting from 100 to 250, a little bit easier 250 to 500 little easier again, and then 500 to 1000 easier from there. And from there, it just gets progressively easier as you start to understand what the audience wants you perfect your content style, you start to really dial in what kind of stuff you wanna create and what you don't, not to mention, you have momentum and you've got a bit of traction behind you that helps to push you forward. This is why setting those mini goals is so incredibly important to help keep you motivated in the beginning. So set that 100 and then 250 and then 500 and then 1000. And every time you check off the next box, have a mini celebration, whatever that looks like for you.

The Impact of Consistency and Content Volume

Alright, so my next tip towards hitting that 1,000 subscribers fast, well this one's gonna require a little bit of work but it's also kind of obvious in that you're gonna need to make more videos. Now there is no one size fits all recipe here for how many videos it's gonna take you to hit that 1000 mark. Again, it's gonna vary depending on your business and your market, and your niche and your style and so on. But one thing that's really obvious is that the more videos you make, well, the faster it's going to happen. Now, of course, quality does matter and there's always this debate, or should I make better videos Or should I make more videos. And of course, in a perfect world, you try to combine those and make as many good videos as you possibly can. But in the beginning, like I said earlier, it's all about testing and experimenting and finding your voice and finding your style. So my advice here is just to make as many videos as you possibly can, and let the audience be the judge of whether it's quality or not. After all, one of the biggest flaws that we often have as creators as entrepreneurs is that we tend to err more on the side of perfectionism, which means something is never gonna be perfect enough for us to get it out there and to actually publish it and upload it.

Consistency Through Scheduling and Persistence

Alright, so my next tip is all about setting a schedule. Whether you decide to do a video a day, which is crazy, I totally don't suggest that or a video a week, which is way more reasonable. Regardless, you're going to need to set some kind of schedule so you can maintain and allow yourself to be consistent with creating and with uploading content because at the end of the day, YouTube and your subscribers love consistency. So let's say you do decide on that one video a week, this is a great place to start 'cause you could spend one day doing research, you could spend one day outlining, you could spend one day writing a bit of a script, you could spend one day recording it, you could spend one day editing it. And of course, by one day, I don't mean the entire day, but rather 15 to 30 minutes per day, maybe a little more on the editing side. But regardless, by being consistent by baking it into your schedule, you'll make sure that it actually gets done and that is incredibly important. Now one of the strategies a lot of YouTubers give is to batch record your content. Essentially set aside a day to record two, three, four maybe even five videos on that one day freeing you up for the rest of the month.

Analyzing Patterns for Video Optimization

The next step in the process towards that 1000 subscribers is all about looking for patterns. So at this point, you should have 20 to 30 videos uploaded maybe more, maybe less. Regardless, you wanna go into YouTube Analytics, and you wanna search your videos by the most popular. Essentially the ones with the most views and that's gonna tell you all you need to know about what kind of videos are resonating and YouTube's promoting and what kind of videos just are missing the mark. Now of course why some videos do amazing and others don't is totally nuanced and there's a million factors, including the title and the topic, and the description, and the thumbnail and the hook at the beginning, and so on. But at this stage, I really just want you to look from that 30,000 foot overview to try to find out what kind of topics people want to see more of, because then, probably, unsurprisingly, I want you to make more of those. You see, that's the beauty of YouTube and like most of the social media algorithms is they're really obvious about what kind of content works and what kind of content doesn't. All you have to do is take a look at other top YouTubers, the top videos with the most views and then try to study and break down what it is about them that's getting them so many views. Is it the topic? Is it the title? Is it the way that it's delivered? And the reality is, it's always a combination, but you've got to get started by creating those videos and then looking for patterns within them that allow you to sort of guide where you're gonna go next.
