NOW ONHey, John Crestani here. I'm going to have some real talk with you. I'm going to talk to you a little bit about a topic people have asked me to talk about but I haven't mentioned too much, which is my house burning story. What happened was, I was actually at an entrepreneur event for my entrepreneurs organization the night of the fire. I was in West area called Lake Village. My house is in Malibu. So, I was actually at this event that was only about 20 minutes away from my house.
But we had to get evacuated. Now, I ended up getting in my truck and driving home. I had a couple drinks I wasn't you know over the limit. And I'm sure. I drove home and the fight, the smoke was just... There's a lot of smoke in the air. Because it was all blowing. The winds were about, I don't know, something like 60-70 miles an hour. And they were all blowing the fires from Eastern Los Angeles over to our area which is in Malibu. And so, the smoke was all filtering there. But I didn't think the fires were that close.
At this point, okay? Maybe not even 3 months. We just bought this great Malibu ranch. It had horse stables. We had a big backyard right up against the mountain. We didn't have any horses yet. But we had a, you know, tack shed, we had a horse arena. We have a nice amount of land in a beautiful part of LA, Malibu. And so I said, 'Oh! It's going to be fine. It's not going to cross the freeway.' The freeways are... It's 14 lanes. It's huge. The freeways... You know the freeways in Los Angeles are, are just they stretch. They're freaking big. So, I thought the fire can't go all the way over that.
Finally a fireman in a truck. The fire people did... You know, they had no resources to help save our community. Because the fire was so big. The firefighters were stressed. Then our community had been left to be just burned, okay? Fire people were not fighting the fire in our area. But somebody had come through in a not a fire truck but just like a normal kind of like Ford f-250 driving through just to see if there are any stragglers. And I saw him and I started honking my horn.
